2 newborn photographers that inspire me

Just like with every profession, there are people out there that will inspire your work, make you want to say: “wow” and give you goosebumps. Newborn photography is not any different, so today I’d like to share with you two of my favourite newborn photographers that inspire me. There are many more, but these two are very different, with distinctive style and masses of followers. They are artists, capturing those precious first moments of babies lives and freezing them for us forever. It’s utterly selfish to keep them all to myself, so I decided to let you into their world, to be amazed and fall in love with their creations.

Can you spoil a baby?

Our daughter is one year old! After what seemed to be the longest year of our lives, we decided it’s time for a break. My lovely parents volunteered to move into our house for two weeks, to look after our kids whilst we jetted off to a better, more peaceful, less sleep deprived place. Then we got THE phone call.

7 Common Newborn Skin Problems

There are many common newborn skin problems that you and your new baby may experience shortly after birth. Mostly, those are nothing to worry about, but it’s worth keeping your eyes open. In many cases, your baby may suffer from quite a few of them, or sometimes all!

Why it takes 4 hours to photograph a newborn baby.

When booking a newborn session with me, or any other newborn photographer for that matter, you will receive detailed instructions as to what to expect from the session and how to prepare for it. One of the things you will be made aware of is the amount time you would need to set aside for the session: an average of 4-5 hours. Mums rarely question this, but when dads are involved in booking the sessions, I often get the question following the info e-mail: “Why does it take that long?!” Here’s what you can expect during this time.

15 tips on how to take awesome pictures of your newborn.

I wasn’t always competent with my camera. My love for newborn photography flourished from the failure to satisfy the ambition to take good photos of my newborn daughter. Some of the ones I have taken are so bad, I am too embarrassed to show them to the world, but since you guys are here, and read thus far, I think you should experience the level of “bad” we are talking about, to learn from my mistakes and make sure your photos are better from the outset.

Big bow? It’s a no; why I photograph newborns mostly naked.

You may have come across a lot of colourful, fancy photo props when researching newborn poses prior to your session (yup, most of us have a Pinterest board with cute baby photo ideas). Whether we’ve got a professional newborn photography session booked or not, most of us want to take our own baby photos as well. There is nothing wrong with that. We capture moments that are going to have a meaning for us on a personal level, and that’s great. Sometimes we want to take funny pics, so we buy fancy newborn outfits with quotes printed on them. Sometimes we buy big, fluffy hats and crocheted pants, and there is nothing wrong with that either. There is time and place for everything. Well, almost everything.

Herbal baths for newborns and why we should try them.

I came across this wild idea today, whilst browsing through newborn photography work of a couple of awesome American and Australian photographers, and I realised it’s really popular outside the UK. Not only the photography itself, but the actual herbal baths for newborns as a way to combat certain illnesses, relieve colic etc., so I got reading! Here are some things I found out about the benefits of herbal baths for newborns.

When should I book my newborn photographer?

I get a lot of enquiries from parents of babies over one month old. We finally got our head around the fact that sleep is a thing of the past. Baby’s feeding is now established, we’ve managed to successfully incorporate this new, gorgeous little person into our life. We’ve suddenly realised the thing we were told about babies growing so far wasn’t a cliche and they do actually change every single day!

What to wear for a newborn session

Every time I have a chat with future parent about their upcoming newborn session, the same question crops up: “What to wear for the session?” I decided to put together this post, to give you guys an idea of what looks good together, and what we could leave at home.
