Commercial Veterinary Headshots with a Twist

New Year is usually the time when we dust off the cobwebs, not just at the gym but also in our personal and professional lives. With that in mind, we typically receive an influx of requests for headshots in the first couple of weeks of January, which led me to reminisce about one of the most enjoyable headshot sessions we’ve had at the studio to date.

Anyone who’s met me, even for a fleeting moment, will be well aware that I am a dog lover through and through. But I absolutely love all animals—cats, horses, hamsters—bring them to me! And you know, sometimes dreams do come true!

I had the absolute pleasure of having the amazing Charlotte from the Travelling Vet as a client. After years of photographing her beautiful family, I finally got the chance to capture her other love: the legendary team she works with! The beauty of working at the Vet practice is collaborating with like-minded folks who all adore pets of any shape and size, most of whom own one or two themselves.

When chatting with Charlotte initially, we started off with just a plan to capture a collection of general headshots for each member of her work clan. However, as we continued visualizing the day, something came to mind.

“Why don’t we involve all your pets? Does everyone who works at the Travelling Vet have an animal at home?”

“Mostly!”

“Well… why don’t you bring them all to the studio?”

Little did I know, we had more than just a couple of dogs to plan around. There were cats, hamsters, and even a tortoise!

After a quick deliberation, we decided to break the day down into three segments: morning with all the canine friends, afternoon for cats, and the last slot for hamsters and tortoises. And it could not have been more perfect.

We captured the regular headshots, and those were great. Additionally, we shot an alternative headshot for each member of the team with their pet. At the end of the day, we combined the photos to create a team poster.

My favorite part of the day, besides snuggling with so many beautiful creatures? Walking into the studio bathroom to find a tortoise swimming in my sink, as if it’s nobody’s business.
