Every parent has got that one friend, who just knows stuff. Baby with a strange looking rash? They know what to take, apply, use to soothe the redness. They know which car seat to buy, which high chair is the best, and they are your go-to person in any baby related drama. Baby novelties and gadgets? They’ve tried it, tested it and reviewed in on Amazon.
I would like to dedicate this post to my awesome friend, Gemma, who is always up to date with all the cool baby stuff. I hope I can surprise you with at least one or two things on this list!
Today I stumbled across the most awesome invention for mums, who find themselves carrying their babies on their hips and then suffer with all sorts of back pain.. so basically 90% of us. I am absolutely guilty of that, too, but with my daughter now approaching 11 months, it’s becoming increasingly harder to carry on. Someone smarter than me came up with this simple, yet amazing idea:
Here’s what their website tells us about it:
“Specifically designed to address one of the root causes of adult back pain, the hipseat provides a firm shelf for the child to sit on and supports their increasingly heavy weight from underneath. Instead of twisting the spine, the parent’s back stays straight and the child is tucked into the chest, providing comfort and security for both adult and child.”
I currently have one on order so watch this space for an update on this awesome, little thing.
2. Sanitizing wand by Verilux, around £60
Your very own lightsabre! This little thing uses UVC light, instead of chemicals, to kill bacteria, mold, spores and dust mites. Can be used to sanitise your sofa, baby toys and even toothbrushes!
3. Cybex Sirona car seat, £375
My lovely friend Laura introduced me to this “cosmic” seat and from the moment I saw it I knew I needed one! If you suffer with back ache of any sort, you know how inconvenient and painful getting kids in and out of the car seat can be. The Sirona seat swivels to face you when you are trying to get your little one out, and allows you to choose between forward and rear facing position for travelling. It comes with its own base so all you need is a car with an isofix and you are on your way! The seat can be used from birth up to 4 years, which slightly justifies the price, as you only need one size, as opposed to the usual level one and two seats. If this is not enough to convince you, just look at how gorgeous it is!
There are literally tons of awesome little things that make this seat the ultimate car seat for your little one, but you can read all about it on the retailer’s website.
For parents that fly a lot or that have a big trip planned with baby in tow, this airplane hammock gives baby a place to be once they’ve reached cruising altitude. It uses the tray table in order to provide baby with a comfy spot right in front of mom or dad.
Make sure you order directly from the seller in this case, as the price difference is quite significant when compared to Amazon.co.uk. We are talking £38 (incl. delivery to UK, excluding taxes) v £71,80 at Amazon (delivery included).
5. Jumperoo by FisherPrice, £89.99
Those of you who know me personally know, that the first question I ask new parents is: “Have you got a Jumperoo?” The bouncy seat from FisherPrice has singlehandedly saved my sanity on many occasions. It frees your hands to have a hot drink, put make-up on or whatever else your heart desires. Kids tend to love it and happily bounce for ages. My daughter used to “bounce” herself to sleep on many occasions. Suitable from 6 months.
6. Onesie extenders, £10 for a set of 3
Add a size to bodysuits for rapidly growing toddlers! They come in all sorts of colours, from plain white to funky dinos. Brilliant and simple idea that can save you a bit of money.
7. Newborn photoshoot, £179+
When my daughter was born, I was not aware of the importance of the first 2 weeks, when it comes to taking photos of newborns. In all honesty, in the first month or so, I was not aware of many things. Life was a haze. Only when she hit the 3-month mark, did I think it would be nice to have some professional pictures of her, before she morphs into a toddler. I thought it was a cliche when I heard “they grow up so fast”, but it’s ridiculous just how FAST newborns grow! I showed up at a door of a local newborn photographer, and what followed was a 3h long scream-a-thon with a 5 min opportunity for the photographer to capture her images (and how she’s managed that, I still haven’t got a clue!).
New parents have tons of things on their mind, and photo-shoots are rarely their priority. They will receive baby bath, tons of clothes and toys, but if you want to present someone with something really special, that they will definitely cherish for years to come, or maybe you are pregnant and looking for something for your own baby, booking a shoot is one of the nicest way to capture those moments we will cherish for ever.
