Sienna by Dinky Feet – Newborn Photographer Sheffield

Sienna’s parents contacted me when my little model was already 13 days old, but they were lucky to pick a week, when all my newborn models were running a bit “late”, so we booked our session within a couple of days.

Confessions of a training junkie

I’ve trained with everyone. You name it, I’ve done it. Absorbing knowledge is my fetish. I wanted to write this blog post for ages, but not before I finished training with the last person on my dream team of British trainers I have coveted over the last two years of my professional career as a photographer. This week I fulfilled my plan. As I am known in photography circles as the douche that shoves constructive criticism down everyone’s throat, I believe it’s only fair that I extend it to trainers too.

When the elevator to success is broken.

As much as I love being patronising occasionally, I’ll refrain from it today and try to stick to the constructive points I want to make. I may struggle but bare with me.

Are memories a luxury?

This week crystallised for me the USP (unique selling points for those who had the pleasure of never working in sales), that Dinky Feet Photography has over any competitors, so I thought I will share it with you, as it’s something I have been passionate about since I started our photography business almost two years ago. It never occurred to me till now, and it did make me a little smug. Even more so than I am every time I show you guys a gallery of gorgeous images of your babies. Yes, I totally feel smug then. I created something priceless. I know we have a great gallery, when I watch it just before you arrive for your viewing, and I have tears in my eyes, and it’s not even my baby!

Valentines 2.0: where has romance gone after a baby?

I may have a a bit skewed idea of what love and romance actually are. I had a tear in my eye when during a trip to nuclear reactor in Chernobyl, a couple of my friends got engaged in the middle of a dead town, with abandoned buildings around. People got evacuated from there in fear of imminent death thirty years ago, and there I was, standing in the middle of it all, thinking it’s the most romantic place on earth to propose. In my head I was humming Rihanna’s “We found love in a hopeless place”.

Sitter sessions, what’s the deal with that anyway?

You most likely came across newborn photography a few times. Your friends posted some photos of their tiny babies on Facebook, you may have had a session with your baby, when they were only a week old. It’s becoming a mainstream early milestone, and you may get frowned upon if you don’t have one done. From a business point of view of course all the frowning works for me, as I want you to be my client. From a personal point of view, as a mother myself, I want you to have those memories to look back on, and never regret not capturing those first moments, when everything was tiny, and your babies were not after new football boots and a puppy for Christmas. You never want to forget those details. After that we have a crazy whirlwind of a year, ending up with a cake smash to celebrate your baby’s first birthday and a first big milestone. I believe this “tradition” of smashing cake and rubbing icing all over ones face came from the States. No doubt it will soon be banished there if any props are made in Mexico. Cake smashes are fun. You get your babies’ character […]
